International monitoring needed in standoff between Qatar, Arab neighbours, says senior UAE official

A senior United Arab Emirates official said, international monitoring is needed in the standoff between Qatar and its Arab neighbours. He added he saw signs that the pressure exerted on Doha is working.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt imposed sanctions on Qatar on the 5th of last month. They cut diplomatic and transport ties with the tiny Gulf monarchy, accusing it of financing extremist groups and allying with Gulf Arab states arch-foe Iran.

On the other hand, Qatar has denied the accusations. Recently, it has also signed an agreement on counter terrorism with The United States. The Agreement signed during the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson three-day visit to Doha and Gulf-Arab countries to try to end a month-long rift between Western-allied Arab states.
