India welcomes US-North Korea Summit calling it a positive development

India has welcomed the United States – North Korea Summit held in Singapore. In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs said Tuesday, this is a positive development and India has always supported all efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy.

India hoped that the outcomes of the summit will be implemented, thus paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

It also hoped that the resolution of the Korean Peninsula issue will take into account and address India’s concerns about proliferation linkages extending to India’s neighbourhood.

Earlier Tuesday, the United States decided to provide security guarantees to North Korea, in exchange of Pyongyang’s firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile, South Korea has termed the Trump-Kim summit as the talks of the century.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in hoped that the summit will be a success and result in complete denuclearisation, peace and a new era in relations between the two Koreas and the United States.

China has also praised the meeting between Trump and Kim, calling for full denuclearisation to resolve the tensions in the region.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters in Beijing that to resolve the issue, there should be full denuclearisation, and a peace mechanism to address North Korea’s reasonable security concerns.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also welcomed signing of the document.
