Rajnath Singh to hold discussions in Bangladesh on various issues

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will hold discussions in Bangladesh on various issues related to bilateral security, border management and cross-border crimes. He arrived in Dhaka yesterday on his three-day visit. He was received by his Bangladeshi counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

During the visit, Mr Singh along with Mr Kamal will co-chair the 6th India-Bangladesh Home Minister Level Talks tomorrow. He will hold talks on issues related to security, border management, cooperation in countering illegal activities and travel arrangements. In a tweet, Mr Singh said, both the countries have made notable progress in transforming the land and maritime boundaries into zones of peace and tranquillity. The Minister, who is accompanied by top officials of the Home Ministry and security agencies, said, India attaches great significance to ties with Bangladesh.

Mr Singh will also meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and discuss various bilateral issues. He, along with the Prime Minister, will also inaugurate a new, state-of-art, integrated Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka. 

The Rohingya issue is also likely to figure in the meeting. Mr Singh will also discuss the steps, to be taken to strengthen the existing mechanism to check movement of illegal immigrants and smuggling of cattle, arms and ammunition, narcotics and other items through the porous Indo-Bangla border.
